Here at Solar Repair Service, we’ve put together this exclusive Sigenergy battery review thanks to our hard-working solar technicians – who repair, maintain and service solar and battery systems all across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.

First: All about Sigenergy

Sigenergy entered the Australian market in 2023 and has since become one of the country’s top-selling residential battery brands. Some rankings (like SunWiz) have named it number 1 in their awards, which is probably why we see and install these systems so regularly. It’s also why the scores you see in our Sigenergy battery review reflect exactly what we find in the field.

If you’ve been looking for a Sigenergy battery review Australia wide homeowners can really rely on, this one scores the SigenStor on the 8 most important metrics – also covering the owner complaints you may find online, and finishing with a helpful overall rating.

So: Be careful what you read elsewhere. Because we think this is the ultimate Sigenergy solar battery review.

What is the SigenStor?

Any credible Sigenergy solar battery review has to start with what the SigenStor actually is – because it’s actually quite a bit more than a battery.

It combines all of these:

  • A hybrid inverter (called the energy controller)
  • Stackable lithium iron phosphate battery modules
  • A backup gateway.

That’s basically a 3-in-1 system – with an optional EV charger on top!

Modules offer roughly 5 kWh and 8 kWh of usable capacity, so a system can be sized to suit the household, and both single-phase and three-phase versions are available.

The 8 metrics that really matter

We’ve scored each metric out of 10, based on what we see on real installs in the real world.

1. Capacity and scalability: 9/10

Up to six modules stack in a single tower, taking usable capacity to around 48 kWh, and the system can be expanded as needs grow. For a household that starts small and adds later, few rivals offer the same flexibility.

2. Backup performance: 9/10

Switchover to backup power takes under 10 milliseconds, which Sigenergy markets as seamless. That means lights, fridges and computers typically keep running all the way through an outage.

Whole-home backup is available with the backup gateway fitted, including three-phase backup on three-phase systems.

3. Efficiency: 8/10

Manufacturer figures put round-trip efficiency in the mid-to-high 90s per cent – which is seriously good.

The hybrid design also stores solar energy without an extra conversion step, which helps keep losses low. Fewer conversions mean more of your solar ends up powering the house after dark.

4. Safety & build: 7/10

Lithium iron phosphate chemistry is well regarded for thermal stability, and the system is rated IP66 for outdoor installation, which suits an exposed wall or carport.

In November 2025, the ACCC published a voluntary recall of certain SigenStor units, but the battery modules themselves were not part of the recall. And those who were affected received a free replacement controller with a revised connection and an extra two years of warranty – and Sigenergy attributed the failures to installation practices, anyway.

The best news? New systems use the updated connection design, so there’s no issue.

5. Warranty: 8/10

The SigenStor carries a 10-year product and performance warranty, guaranteeing at least 70 per cent of usable capacity or a set energy throughput – whichever comes first. A throughput limit applies, so it is worth asking your installer how it works for your usage.

6. Smart features & EV charging: 9/10

A few really important features here:

  • AI-based optimisation decides when the system charges and discharges
  • The mySigen app gives live monitoring
  • Virtual power plant compatibility is part of the package.

One more thing: An optional bi-directional DC EV charger adds vehicle-to-home capability with compatible vehicles.

7. Price & rebate eligibility: 8/10

Because the inverter and battery come as one system and capacity is modular, you basically just buy the size you need.

The SigenStor is Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved and fully eligible for the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

Before you review Sigenergy battery quotes, check what each includes.

Ask your installer if yours includes:

  • The gateway
  • Installation
  • The EV charger.

That way, if you’re getting multiple quotes, you can compare like with like.

8. Owner feedback & complaints: 7/10

There are a few Sigenergy battery review complaints out there.

They usually talk about:

  • Response times
  • App connectivity problems
  • The occasional hardware fault.

Most of that is to be expected with any product sold at this scale. The great news is that Sigenergy has built a local Australian support team, and an installer who knows the platform can lodge and follow up warranty claims for you, which makes the choice of installer matter.

Several owners who report frustration with Sigenergy support also praise their installer, which underlines the point. Firmware updates are frequent, and keeping the system connected to the internet lets it receive them.

Who does the SigenStor suit?

The SigenStor fits some households extremely well.

Are you:

A Household planning To Expand?: Modules can be added later, so the system grows with the household.

An EV Owner?: The optional DC charger brings the car into the same system as the solar and battery.

A Home That Wants Whole-Home Backup: Fast switchover and whole-home backup suit households that work from home or run medical or refrigeration equipment.

Our overall score: 8.5/10

Capacity, backup performance and smart features are the strongest points, making it really easy to see why it consistently leads Australian sales at the moment. Compared with fixed-size batteries, the modular design is the main reason many households choose it.

It’s hard to ignore the recall and some of the feedback, but we must point out – a reputable installer cancels all of that out. For most households, if you choose the right solar installer, the SigenStor is a seriously strong and flexible choice – which is why we rate it as highly as any other Sigenergy solar battery review Australia wide homeowners are likely to see.
